Possessive before a gerund?

Sentence: ...little hope exists of them not burning in a gruesome inferno. "them" is highlighted with the phrase "possessive before a gerund" juxtaposed in a parenthetical remark. Am I supposed to change "them" to "their" or am I missing something?
