Can DHS count SSI SSA as income when applying for food stamps?
I have a friend who is in a situation and im trying to help. Basically she is a mother of 3 who has no job or car. Her husband has ped away so her kids get SSA or survivor benefits also one of the kids has a disability and gets SSI. DHS is counting all the social security benefits as her income these benefits barley cover her living expenses. She is only getting 60 bucks a month in food stamps because they are counting that income. I have read in several places that they are not supposed to count that as income. So i need to know if that is indeed true and if it is true what is the best way for her to handle it.
