In Pok�mon Diamond/ Pearl, is there any way to p on pok�mon characteristics?

At the moment, I'm in the process of breeding pok�mon for a new team i'm putting together. I'm kind of new to the whole breeding concept since I read somewhere that it's wise to finish the storyline first which i've just done, but i'd never bred before that. I understand the stuff about Natures affecting stats etc and also if you give Ditto an Everstone, the offspring has a chance of inheriting its Nature. But one thing I need to ask is, is there any way of ping on characteristics? Because I know these can help figure what IV's a pok�mon has but it would be helpful to know if there is a way to p them on because at the moment, I'm just aimlessly breeding a load of Modest Minuns with different IV's, which is a slightly long-winded and boring process to say the least! If anyone knows if this is possible or how it can be achieved, please answer. It would be a great help!! Thank you!
