feeding and Soother?

My baby as born 2 days ago and as i have observed him i have noticed that he soothes himself by sucking on his hands. Now that he has fed for 48 hours he has gotten pretty good at it and has been wanting to fall asleep while sucking on the nipple. As i have not gotten fully used to the feedings yet my are sooo sore and can only handle so much. Tonight i fed him for an hour switching 4 times and changing him once in between. I than offered him the soother as he wanted to continue sucking and he managed to fall right asleep. Had anyone else done this? And when is considered a good time to intorduce the soother? Does anyone think the soother will affect his ability to feed?
